Recovered heat is not the same as energy-bill savings

There is an important distinction here.

A heat recovery efficiency of 70.6% does not mean that your household energy bill will automatically be 70.6% lower.

The heat exchanger recovers thermal energy. The actual reduction in purchased energy depends on how your shower system is connected and how the recovered heat is used.

For example, the result depends on:

• the efficiency of your boiler or water heater;
• whether you use an electric heater, boiler or heat pump;
• the shower flow rate;
• incoming water temperature;
• shower temperature;
• pipe lengths and heat losses;
• the way the heat recovery system is integrated into the hot-water system.

The important point is that the heat recovery system reduces the amount of new energy that needs to be supplied to produce hot shower water.
